Survived 50+ MPH Winds in the Guadalupe Mountains

5 out of 5 stars

Survived 50+ MPH Winds in the Guadalupe Mountains
I purchased the CAMPROS 11×7 six person tent for a remote camping trip to Guadalupe Mountains National Park in Texas and it exceeded my expectations in extreme conditions. We camped for four days with sustained winds around 25 mph upon arrival, overnight gusts between 47 and 50 mph, and while hiking Guadalupe Peak we experienced 65 to 70 mph winds on the mountain. I was fully expecting to come back to a collapsed tent or broken poles after an eight hour summit hike. To my surprise the tent had not moved. It remained secure, structurally solid, and fully intact. No snapped poles, no torn fabric, no shifting. It handled the wind far better than I anticipated. Overnight temperatures dropped to between 22 and 25 degrees and the tent retained warmth impressively well. The material quality, stitching, and overall build feel much stronger than what I expected at this price point. I initially saw mixed reviews before purchasing but after putting this tent through real mountain conditions I can confidently say it performed when it mattered most. If you are looking for a tent that can handle serious wind and cold weather this one proved itself on a very demanding trip. Would absolutely purchase again.

My Husband, FOUR dogs and I went on a weekend camping trip using this tent. Very sturdy! Fit a twin size mattress on one half and left plenty of room for belongings and space for all 4 dogs to lay out. The setup took about 15 minutes for two people and the tent held up the entire weekend without the need to tie anything down twice. No severe weather to attest to but with the windows open allowed for great air circulation! Great purchase and will be using again. Love the stability of this tent!

So far this is a great tent! Easy set up and we did it in the dark. Had a storm roll through in the morning and there were no leaks! Only issue I have is that I was sent the wrong color lol

This camping tent exceeded all of our expectations. It’s very spacious inside, with plenty of room for people, gear, and moving around comfortably. Setup was much easier than I expected and didn’t take long at all, even the first time. The tent feels solid and well made, and it held up great in both wind and rain, everything stayed completely dry inside. The mesh windows and door provide excellent airflow, which made a big difference on warmer days, and the rainfly adds an extra layer of protection when the weather changes. I also love that it packs back into the carry bag without a struggle. Overall, this is a reliable, comfortable tent that’s perfect for family trips or group camping. Highly recommend it.

I have slept in a lot of tents. This one was purchased with the purpose of being a good car camping tent for our family of four. We anticipated it would see a lot of sand, dirt, etc and we wanted something that was sufficient to do the job, but not so nice we'd cry if anything happened to it. We camped for a week at both the beach and the Hoh rainforest in sunshine and in rain. Key points:
    Things I love:
    Color is great.
Bottom of tent is tarp material, so it's durable and extends up the sides.
    Fits the whole family.
Packs down small for it's size.
    Very affordable.
Plenty of vents (no condensation issues).
    Things I dislike:
THE ZIPPER ON THE DOOR. Why did they only put one zipper pull on the zipper instead of two?! It is really annoying as an adult to bend down and unzip/rezip from the very bottom every time I want to get in or out of the tent. Every other tent I own I has double zippers to avoid this. (You can leave them at the middle/top, and then unzip and step inside without stooping all the way over). Also, kids sometimes don't push the zipper all the way closed and I constantly felt paranoid we'd get mice or another critter in the tent because of this.
The poles are kinda flimsy. We definitely had some unique looking angles going on.
Water resistance was questionable. We had water come in through that blasted door zipper and also a few other places after two days of rain.
I would not want to be in this tent in heavy winds.
Overall, it's a good entry level tent. It's a great bang for your buck if this is your price point. There are nicer ones out there, but nothing this affordable.
One last hot tip: You can get a tarp from Harbor Freight for less than $10 if you need a footprint.
    Happy Camping!
