Warm, Reliable, and Backcountry-Tested

5 out of 5 stars

Warm, Reliable, and Backcountry-Tested
Backcountry approved ✅ I used the Kelty Cosmic Down 20 on a recent 4-day trip in the Emigrant Wilderness, and it performed better than expected. I paired it with a Z Lite Sol foam pad and even added a layer of fresh ferns underneath for insulation and cushion. I slept right next to a fire in a well-ventilated area, and despite the dropping temps, I stayed consistently warm all night.

I bought the Kelty Cosmic Down 20 for fall backpacking trips and so far it has totally exceeded expectations. It kept me warm in temps down to the high 20s °F with just a base layer and a decent sleeping pad. The down insulation lofts up nicely, and I really like the hood and draft collar features—little things that make a big difference on cold nights.
It packs down smaller than I expected (fits in my 50L pack with room to spare), and for the price, this is probably one of the best value down bags out there. It's not ultralight, but it's light enough for most weekend or multi-day hikes.
Only downside is the mummy shape is a bit snug if you toss and turn. But the footbox has enough space and I still slept comfortably.
Highly recommend for 3-season use if you want warmth and quality without breaking the bank.

Excellent bag, well built, lightweight, and warm, perfect for backpacking. Comfortable down to about freezing (32°f). I am 6' 2" tall, about 26" across at the shoulder. I purchased the long version. Length is good probably fit a guy up to 6' 6". However the bag is "snug" at the shoulder and arms. Not tight per say but not a lot of room eather. Difficult to fully zip and unzip because it is tight with one arm flexed or "bent" in order to zip. If you are a barrel chested, muscular, or husky man you are not going to like this bag. I have taken to using it as a blanket. Otherwise very happy.

I was skeptical about the sleeping bag because of how small it is, but it keeps me really warm. I love sleeping in the cold with a warm blanket and the sleeping bag kept me nice and toasty. The zipper is really easy to zip up in the dark is good quality. It rolls up super small and fits in the saddlebag of my motorcycle.

Very warm, high quality bag! I’ve owned several sleeping bags and I got this as a spare but I wanted to try it out and was very pleasantly surprised! Not only was the stitching and zipper high quality, but it retained heat much better than I expected for how light it is. 10/10 would recommend to anyone in need of a sleeping bag!

Very warm, just wish it had a few vents in it. I'm 4'10 so trying to find something with out too much extra space is a struggle. I recently used this on a camping trip where it got to the low 30s at night on a humid mountain. I was honestly afraid I was going to be super cold but instead I sweat the entire night. I ended up unzipping the side but that left me a little too cold. If this thing had a 2 way zipper so you could just do a small portion or some vents it would have been perfect! Overall I guess id rather be too warm than too cold so can't complain too much.

Got this as a gift for my girlfriend and she loves it. The size and fit is good for her she is 5’9”. The thickness is designed for women giving her a comfortable night sleep. We are impressed by the quality of the down and the quality of the zipper. Good value for the price as well. Probably could be better but we are happy with it.
